7th Annual Newaygo Area Chamber of Commerce TroutFest Sponsored by Jimmy's Roadhouse was a great success. The charity benefiting from this years event was Love INC - Newaygo Food Pantry. There were many people on hand participating in the Blessing of the Poles, thank you to Jon Riedel; Newaygo Congregational United Church of Christ, Kathy Groff; Newaygo United Methodist Church, Mary Frens; St. Mark's Episcopal Church; the 50/50 Bobber Races, Warming Fire with marshmellows, thank you Beaver Tree Service; Live entertainment from Sandra Bernard, Michele Mines & Kasey Hayden. Thank you to all those who brought canned goods to the park!

Newaygo-Grant matchup the big winner in Muskegon Game of Week football poll

MUSKEGON – Game on between Grant and Newaygo.

The neighboring towns will battle it out Friday as the greater Muskegon area’s Game of the Week for the first round of the high school football playoffs.

The vote is in and the matchup is a landslide winner of the MLive.com fan poll.

It won with more than 75 percent, drawing 1,349 of the 1,776 votes cast in the weekly poll.

The game drew a big interest in Newaygo County as the two teams did not play during the regular season because of Newaygo’s move to a new conference. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday at Newaygo.

Following behind were Oakridge-Buchanan (169 votes), Fruitport-Grand Rapids Christian (94), Muskegon Catholic Central-Vestaburg (70), Muskegon-Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills (69) and Shelby-Kalkaska (25).

We'll write a preview about the Newaygo-Grant game and cover it with two reporters to provide a variety of stories, photos and stats. We'll also be conducting a live chat - which will provide not only up-to-the-minute reports, but information on other games in the area.

This Friday's playoff game "Newaygo Lions vs. Grant Tigers" tickets can now be purchased in advance (during school hours) at the Newaygo High School's Main Office or Athletic Office.

Newaygo Area Chamber of Commerce Presents “Christmas Walk” - November 30th, 2012

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…” Well… not just yet, but the Holiday Season is fast approaching. The Newaygo Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Walk is Friday, November 30.

Your Family will be mesmerized by the smell of chestnuts roasting, the clip-clop of horses up and down State Street as people enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride. The glowing brightness of the Christmas warming fire and the beautiful sound of Christmas Carols echoing throughout the stores and in your heart. Santa Clause has saved this date, as Newaygo is one of his favorite places to visit and Mrs. Clause will be here too.

ChoiceOne Bank Saint Nick Kick - 5K / 10K Run 5K Walk - December 1st, 2012

On your mark, get set, GO… and the ChoiceOne Bank Saint Nick Kick is off and running. The 10k/5k race will be held on Saturday December 1 at 10 am, starting in front of Pamida/Shopko near Plumbs. This is a fun race and the proceeds benefit the Cross Country Teams and Track Teams of Newaygo Public Schools. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the race under the warming tent and can’t wait to see the kids. Dress-up, come join the fun and cheer on the racers.
